About
OpenTucson is a non-profit startup formed by Andrew Greenhill (chief of staff for Mayor Walkup) and Ian Johnson (partner in MoiaGroup) to promote web and mobile technologies to foster civic participation through apps that facilitate communication between citizens and government, between citizens themselves, and that generally improve the quality of life in our community.
Andrew Greenhill
Andrew Greenhill is the Mayor’s Chief of Staff for the City of Tucson. He has worked extensively on wide-ranging issues facing Tucson and Southern Arizona such as water, transportation, environmental sustainability, urban planning, economic development and local government reform. Andrew’s strong interest in Government 2.0–the intersection of technology and government–has led to the development of a number of technology initiatives both inside and outside city government. He serves on the Board of Directors for Code for America, a national non-profit loosely modeled after Teach for America, where civic-minded web developers will work closely with local governments to develop applications and other technological solutions for communities.
Andrew was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He has lived in Tucson for 16 years and resides with his wife, two young daughters and an old dog near downtown Tucson. Andrew has a BA in English from Vassar College and an MA in English from the University of Arizona.
Ian Johnson
Ian Johnson is a partner in the Tucson-based web development firm MoiaGroup, for which he is also the principal developer. As software engineer, Ian specializes in web-enabled database-driven applications and has extensive experience in all stages of the software life cycle, including requirements gathering, modeling, prototyping, implementation, testing, deployment, and documentation. He has expert programming skills in PHP and Java. Ian has been working with the web since 1995 and developing web applications for nearly as long.
Ian has lived in Tucson since 1989 and received a BA in Art History and a BFA in Photography from the University of Arizona. Ian has eight bicycles, six chickens, and one fiancée wife.
